Hello, I’m Katie.

Having spent seven years as a reception class teacher at the leading independent primary school, Thomas’s, Kensington, Katie has seen first-hand how emotional wellbeing is the essential ingredient for academic success. As a parent coach, she specialises in the transition from nursery to school, working mainly with parents of three- to five-year olds, both online and in person. She balances compassion and sensitivity with her uniquely practical and straightforward approach.

“I’ve wanted to work with children for as long as I can remember and always put them at the centre of what I do.”

Katie’s practical expertise is grounded by her knowledge of key educational theories. Katie understands how attachment and neurological development can support a child’s ability to thrive, and in particular how it can influence their readiness to learn.

Her ultimate goal is to empower parents with the knowledge they need to support their children in the best possible way – now and in the future. Transitions can be daunting but are vital to development; every challenge is an opportunity to grow as a person. With Katie’s help, parents develop an invaluable template for guiding their children through changes later in life.

Before teaching, Katie studied History and Religious Studies at the University of Manchester, and passed her PGCE with distinction. A keen sportswoman, she grew up in the countryside and is passionate about the outdoors; she champions creativity, and a balanced education based on strong relationships, and a healthy body and mind. She lives in south-west London with her husband and their young daughter, who reinforces Katie’s understanding of how meaningful, real-life experiences form the basis for all future learning, and how positive relationships and dynamics are vital for a growth mindset – from birth to school and beyond.

My approach

I focus on positive parenting

“That means I believe in positive cues and reinforcement, never blaming, and never shaming.

“I believe in creating simple routines that give children as much ownership and independence as possible. I’ve seen first-hand how autonomy and control can really allow a child to thrive.

“And I believe in the importance of forming strong partnerships – not just with me, but with parents and nannies, schools and nurseries, grandparents and any other care givers. By sharing information about your child with all responsible adults, you will help them to flourish, both in themselves, in their family circles, and in the wider community.”

“If you get this transition right, you give them the best foundations for life”
